We are always pushing the envelop and trying to extend the landscape season as far into fall as possible.  When I designed this Fairfield County landscape, the goal was to create interest throughout the swim season .  This pool is heated and our clients tend to keep it open and swim into early fall. While choosing plants for this backyard retreat, I wanted to make sure there was interest long after the tropicals and other annuals were past their prime.  I was surprised this fall when the Aconitum was in flower in late November.  When designing pools and the landscapes that surround them, I always try to choose plants that are interesting from May-October.  I missed the boat on this plant.  Although Aconitum’s are supposed to flower from late summer through early fall, this Aconitum isn’t co-operating and flowers long after the swim season.
