Trees for Connecticut Landscapes

It seems like everyone is in the nursery business these days.  Every parking lot in Fairfield and Litchfield County seems to have plants for sale.  Some of these plants are worth buying, others, honestly is just a waste of money.  I saw these trees for sale in a parking lot last week.

Does anything look out of the ordinary to you?  It certainly does to me!  I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw them.  Do these containers look undersized based on the size of the tree?  If you know anything about trees and landscaping, this is mind boggling. The only place the nursery grower should have delivered these trees is to their compost pile.  Is a tree priced below market a good deal if it’s not going to live in a landscape for more than a couple of years.  I guarantee these trees are severely pot bound with circling roots that sooner than later will strangulate the tree.  A quality tree of this size should have a root ball at least 2x the size of this container.
