One strategy landscape designers use to create a welcoming entry is to add seasonal interest through containers. There is no better way to add drama than with the use of containers filled with annuals and foliage plants. For the last couple of years, I’ve had 10 planters that line my walkway from edge of drive to front door. Even though we plant them with the best of intentions, it is difficult to find the time to water them. Containers typically need water every day or two. Because of this, eventually we have a busy week and the containers are neglected for a couple of days. This year, I decided to spend the time and install a drip irrigation system that not only water the annuals that we put in the ground every season but also the containers that line the driveway. I loving the thought of not having to water my planters after a long day of work.
If you look close, you can see two 1/4″ hoses to the left of the container. That is what transports the water up into the container.
